CENTRAL DESERT

The Central Desert is centered around the town of Alice Springs and is therefore also known as the Alice Springs Region. It is one of the five regions in the Northern Territory, located in the southern part spanning from the Western Australian Border to the Queensland border, making up about 40% of the Northern Territory. The art of this dry desert region is marked by ancestral connections, (much like their neighboring regions, the Western Desert and the APY Lands). New artforms reflect cultural diversity and the ability to explore new techniques in the reinvention of traditional stories.
